Processing Instructions and Application Information for Adhesive Tapes in General
General These processing instructions are intended to provide the user with the necessary
application-specific information for the use of adhesive tapes. Should these instructions not be sufficient for the individual application
or if additional information is required for the optimal use of the adhesive tape, please request our
advice.
Processing Temperature
The most favorable processing temperatures (object temperature and processing temperature) are between +15 °C and +30 °C. Bonding below these temperatures is not recommended. Exceptions are special adhesive types that can also be processed at low temperatures.
Please note:
Below the recommended processing temperatures, the adhesive can become too hard, so that it cannot achieve the optimal adhesion values. If the adhesive tape has been moved from a cold storage room to a warmer production room, it must be given sufficient time to acclimatize so that water vapor from the air cannot condense on the adhesive surface. The same applies to the substrates to be bonded.
Surface Cleaning
In order to achieve and utilize the characteristic values specified in the data sheet, the surfaces to be bonded must be dry, dust-free, free of release agents and oils. Material-compatible solvents such as cleaning gasoline or alcohol should be used as cleaning agents.
Please note
the safety regulations of the manufacturers. The cleaning cloth must be lint-free, it should only be used once. After cleaning, the adhesive surface must no longer be touched with the fingers.
Surface Condition
Good bonds are achieved on smooth surfaces, rough surfaces require thicker adhesive tapes. Problem-free bonding partners are metals, glass, hard PVC, polycarbonate and ABS. Critical bonding partners are PP and PE, powder coatings, rubber, plastics with lubricants, soft PVC and silicones.
Please note:
Porous surfaces (e.g. concrete) or fibrous materials (e.g. wood) require surface sealing before they can be bonded. Bonds on soft PVC require a primer or special adhesive tapes to mitigate the consequences of possible plasticizer migration.
Pressure
The adhesive tape must be pressed firmly onto the material surface with a pressure roller or a squeegee. Hard adhesives require a higher contact pressure than soft adhesives to develop the necessary adhesive strength.
Load
In principle, constructions that generate gap loading or peel stress should be avoided. Shear and tensile loads must be able to distribute over the entire adhesive surface. Stresses at the ends of the joining partners are to be avoided.
Please note:
Constant stresses impair the strength of the bond. The adhesive joint should not be loaded for at least 24 hours.
Storage
The material should be stored in its original carton at room temperature and a relative humidity of approx. 60% and protected from direct sunlight.
